WA Wedding | Kaitlyn & Scott

Kaitlyn and Scott were married in March 2018 in a WA wedding that perfectly blended the very best that Perth has to offer. Scott is a surfer so the spectacular sunset photos on Cottesloe beach and reception afterwards at Indiana ticked off his love of the ocean. Both Kaitlyn and Scott are country kids at heart so their rustic outdoor ceremony at Perry Lakes Reserve captures their bush spirit. Their photographer, Anna Pretorius captured everything the day encapsulated perfectly. Kaitlyn chose our lace Madagascar gown and was looked after by the experts at Bridal by Aubrey Rose in Perth, WA. We asked her a few questions about shopping for a bridal gown and her wedding day….

WA Wedding

Peter Trends Bridal: How did you meet your husband? Kaitlyn: Through mutual friends at a grand final day house party in 2014. My friend and I hadn’t planned on staying at the party long but the party was too fun to leave. Scott had to share his jumper to keep me warm. We managed to find each other when we both weren’t looking for a relationship. I had planned to move to Canada within months of meeting Scott. I actually believe fate stepped in – resulting in my visa being rejected. I couldn’t leave Mr Perfect and I am so glad I didn’t.

Peter Trends Bridal: How did your partner propose to you? Kaitlyn: It was my 28th birthday in July 2017. 28 is my favourite number. We had hired a place in Yallingup, WA. I just wanted to keep warm by the wood fire and drink wine in the Winter for the weekend. We did a wine tour with friends one day; then on the morning of my birthday he gave me a gift which he said was from him but it was actually from my friends. I was surprised and a little confused at this gift he had given me. When I showed a confused look on my face he admitted that this gift was not from him. He was already kneeling on the bed and pulled out the ring box and asked me to marry him. I didn’t manage to scream a yes straight away – too much squealing and happy tears. It was a massive surprise. He had the ring made and I had no idea. He made a very beautiful selection!

Peter Trends Bridal: Did you have a theme or concept for your wedding day? What was your inspiration? Kaitlyn: We love the beach and wanted to incorporate that into our day. Scotty is big on surfing and grew up on the Great Ocean Road. I guess we are country kids at heart. We both grew up in a small town. We wanted our photography to be a little bit of bush and a little bit of the ocean. Anna certainly delivered! We love the old fashioned building of the Indiana with the high ceilings and wooden floor boards. Its similar to our 1940’s house we bought.

Peter Trends Bridal: What was your favourite part of your wedding day? Kaitlyn: Definitely the people who surrounded us. It was so amazing to have all of our favourite people in the same room all at once, all for Scotty and I. They traveled from all over Australia just for us – Victoria, Broome, Darwin, Katanning, Busselton and Port Headland. We were so happy with everyone we selected to play a part in our wedding and they really had a positive impact on the day; Anna our photographer, our acoustic music duo – Bird and Boy, our celebrant Kathy, our MC – Matt and of course our bridal party!

Peter Trends Bridal: How did you find the experience of shopping for a wedding gown? Kaitlyn: I found it very overwhelming. Its hard to imagine what the dress is going to look like exactly when the one you try on in the shop often isn’t the right size or is maybe a little over-tried on by other brides to be. Some shops I had bad experiences, but the girls at Aubrey Rose were so unbelievably helpful. They were so friendly that this made me feel good about buying my dress from there. They gave me their time and I didn’t feel like just another number. One of the reasons I picked the Madagascar dress was because in the store it fit so perfectly. I was confident that I knew what it would look like when it arrived.

Peter Trends Bridal: What did you love about your wedding gown? Kaitlyn: The comfort 100%. I tried on enough to know that this dress was the most comfortable. I wanted a dress that was completely figure hugging but learnt quickly that the material needed to be just right. It was so stretchy and I knew that I wouldn’t feel restricted and that it could sit against my body shape. My bridesmaid often asked “can you do lunges in it?” haha. I certainly could.

Peter Trends Bridal: Is there anything special you would like to share with us about your wedding day? Kaitlyn: My mum did all my alterations to my wedding dress which is so special. Its something I will keep forever because that is such a special touch. My grandmother was a dress maker and she would be very impressed with my mum’s work.

Peter Trends Bridal: Any words of wisdom for future brides? Kaitlyn: Everyone said to me “Enjoy the day – it goes so fast.” I guess because so many people had mentioned this it really made me enjoy each moment. I guess I didn’t ever want it to end and it was never going to be long enough. We had another catch up with everyone the next day which was helpful to catch up with people we barely got to speak to on the day. Its really tough spreading yourself over 95 guests. We had a smaller bridal party which seemed to be a little less stressful and help move through the photos a bit quicker. We got to the reception at the time we wanted and I really think a small bridal party was to thank for this… and an organised photographer.
