Destination Wedding in Florida – Emily and Collier

Emily and Collier planned a stylish destination wedding in Naples Beach Florida where all their friends and family could relax together and have a great time! Emily found the perfect elements for a destination gown in her Emanuella style “Bali Hai” from Nouvelle Vogue Bridal in San Mateo California.

How did you meet your husband?

The first time I saw him, we were with a group of mutual friends heading downtown for the semi-annual Beer and Wine Walk. I remember being introduced to him and admiring his blue eyes and warm smile. I definitely thought he was attractive.

For the next few weeks I couldn’t stop thinking about him.

How did your partner propose to you?

I was on a work trip in Montreal, Canada.  Collier met me at the end of the trip, and we spent a long weekend in the city.

On our last day we visted the Botancial Gardens. We went to the Japanese Garden twice because we loved it so much and because it reminded Collier of aspecial place that his late mother would have loved. It was there at that garden that Collier told me how much he loved me and asked for my hand in marriage. It was the perfect ending to a perfect weekend getaway together!

What was your favourite part of the wedding day?

Having all of our closest friends and family in one of our favorite places in the world for an entire weekend was really special.  It was the perfect way to relax with guests and continue the celebrations throughout the weekend as many of us then went to the pool and beach to spend the rest of the day together. Overall though, my favorite part of our actual wedding day was the ceremony and especially our vows which were handwritten.

Did you have a theme or concept for your wedding day?  What was your inspiration?

Our wedding was a destination wedding at a hotel right on the gulf of Mexico so our ceremony took place outside.  All the men wore black tuxes, and the women’s dresses included a flowy fabric since we were outside fora good portion of the evening. We knew our florist was exceptionally talented so we tried to keep details like the menu, linens and server ware clean and simple to show off our elaborate flowers.

How did you find the experience of shopping for a wedding gown?

I was very overwhelmed by all the styles and designers and visited at least 4-5 stores before ending at Nouvelle Vogue. I thought I knew what I wanted when I went to the other stores but they threw so many different bridal gowns at me that I felt more confused by the time I left.

My experience at Nouvelle Vogue was the complete opposite. The boutique is small but warm and inviting. and the two women who work there are French which immediately piqued my interest since I studied abroad in Paris. The  designer gowns at their boutique were exquisite, and I only tried on about 5 dresses. The first dress I tried was the dress I ended up buying, and I wasn’t sure the first time I put it on but by the second time, I was absolutely certain the Bali Hai gown was the dress for me.

What I loved about my wedding gown.

It was the perfect dress for a destination wedding!  It was a lace wedding dress that was both classy and sexy and most importantly comfortable.  The fabric had some stretch to it which really helped with dancing since the dress overall was fairly fitted.

Do you have any words of wisdom for future brides?

Pick a few details you really want to focus on for your wedding and cater your budget around those details that are most important to you.  Don’t spend time or money on every single detail or it’s easy to get overwhelmed and lost in the process.  Write your own vows. Keep your guest list to 100 or less so you really get a chance to spend time with all your guests.

Is there anything special you would like to share with us about your wedding day?

My wedding day was everything I could have hoped for and more!  Thank you for making such a beautiful gown for me to wear on my special day.
